Musou making a Comeback

Over the years, I have played a vast selection of video games.  I’ve gotten my hands on anything from Gods Hand and Urban Reign, on up to the Call of Duty and Battlefield series.  Heck I still remember when Call of Duty was based on WWI.  With the rise of new generation consoles and with the demand for more game exclusives, I have stayed true to the Musou series.  Musou games are usually comprised of you picking a character that is a general or high ranking officer and leveling them up.  As you level up you will kill thousands of enemies, take over bases and get powerful weapons that you can obtain by defeating opposing generals.  The action can get repetitive and sometimes the A.I is kind of dull, but if you find a genre of Musou that you like, that may make your gaming with them more fulfilling.  The Musou series of Gundam, One Piece and Dragon Quest are pretty good.  Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors are the original mainstay of the series, but everyone cant get with the story of Chinese and Japanese history.  As of late I have been playing One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 and Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3.

Pirate warriors 3, hands down is the best One Piece Musou game they have to date. Although Pirate Warriors 2 kinda had their own story, in Pirate Warriors 3 the story arc is expanded to the Doflamingo Arc.   The new kizuna attack pairs you with your crew mates and lets you unleash a devastating special attack.  The more people you pair with, the stronger the attack.  However your crew is selected for you each level.  If you had access to who you had in your party, that would lead up to some pretty nasty special moves.  They also included a nice roster for the third iteration, but I was really looking forward to playing with MR.1 and Mr.2 Camera angles are way better and quick time events are completely gone. Yessss!  Once you get to lv. 50, you have to collect rare gold coins that will help you break the limit so you can go to 100.  Also they added a Nightmare Log for the hardcore players of the game.  Basically, you dont play this mode unless you are lv 100.

Dynasty warriors gundam on the hand has over 100 mobile suits that you can play with.  Anything from the first Gundam on up to Gundam 00.  The gameplay is fluid and draws you in just like a gundam series is supposed to.  Overall the game is great, I just get tired of fighting Physco Gundam from time to time.  Four is really annoying.

This year more Musou titles will be coming out.  While I am sitting here typing, Arslan: Warriors of Legend comes out tomorrow.  Ive read the manga and seen the anime for Arslan and its shaping up to be a nice looking game.  For many years Musou games have gotten mixed review scores, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t play them.  I always feel like people are missing out on a good beat-em up game.  Most of the newer Musou games have a pretty good leveling up system, and by far Dragon quest has the best to date.  However, I still love the original, Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors.  If you dont want to pay full price for them, definitely consider renting one for the weekend.  Youll get your moneys worth!
