Destiny 2 was released back on September 6, 2017. I can remember faintly what I was doing that year, but I can remember more on the day when Destiny 2 came out. After playing Destiny 1 for a couple of years, I was pretty hyped for Destiny 2 to release. With all of my skills and knowledge from playing Destiny 1, I was definitely sure that Destiny 2 was going to take it up another notch! Boy was I wrong….I played the Beta when it first came out, the aesthetics of the game seemed to impress, but it just didn’t have that grunge and dark feel to it like Destiny 1 did. It took forever to replenish supers, crucible felt like an empty shell of Trials and the subclasses just felt ughhhh to me.
As time went on I would go mini hiatuses and come back to the game to see if they were updating and shaping the game up to be something, or were they dragging they feet. That first year of Destiny 2, was a an ugly year….. Eventually they came out with some small expansion packs to help bolster and push the game along. Curse of Osiris and Warmind were ok, but they weren’t really anything to bark about. I did like the addition of Mars and Escalation protocol but Mercury to me just seemed so pointless. Mercury did happen to flesh out some more of the back story on Osiris, but that was the only great thing about it.
Finally we get to September the 4th, 2018. After the two failed expansions, Bungie finally releases an Expansion that was well worth the wait. During this time I had taken a 6 month hiatus on Destiny 2 as I was burned out from all the grinding. I remember buying the Forsaken Expansion and waiting another two months before I ended playing it. Man, let me tell you, I really enjoyed Forsaken. The death of Cayde-6 was definitely an all time low for me. I literally cried when he died, Cayde-6 was my road dog, a comrade, a Vanguard leader and most of all my mentor. I still rock Golden Gun to this day! Even though I took a Gut punch from Cayde-6 dying, I was starting to notice a whole lot of changes. Destiny was no longer the boring dry sandbox that it was when it came out in 2017. There was more gear and weapons to farm for, mods that could be put on your gear to help bolster your playstyle. The subclasses had been reworked, Crucible (My favorite place in the world to be!!!) was even more hardcore. It had that bite to it, that I missed from Destiny 1. They even brought back 6 vs 6 matchups. I just couldn’t contain my excitement.

Destiny 2 was really shaping up to be what I wanted it to be. The following year Shadowkeep was released and I was pretty stoked since it dealt more with the Hive and Eris Born. Shadowkeep is one of those expansions that I felt should have been in D1 but its all good. Then we ended coming to the annual pass B.S. Im just going to take a moment and not rant on this subject as I could go for hours. I’ll put it this way. Great weapons, Great ornaments, Great Armor, Great Exotics. The only Annual Pass I liked the most was the Drifters, which is currently going on right now as I type. Fast Forward to November of this year and we are about to enter into the Beyond Light Expansion. I know we are supposed to have powers dealing with the Darkness, which is something I’m totally hyped about, but I cant really say what this expansion holds for the future. I do know that since Bungie has split from Activision, Bungie has been able to focus on themselves and thats a good thing. At one point myself, including many others were thinking that Bungie was going to far down the rabbit hole of Darkness.
Destiny 2 has had its ups and downs like most MMOs. If I was a new player or a returning player, now is a good time to come to Destiny 2. The fan base is strong, there is plenty to do, along with plenty of events going on as well. However, you are on a limited time for grinding for some items as some places along with some weapons will be sunset. Some Destinations wont be available but you will still be able to play with weapons, they just wont level up anymore. You have till Nov.10 to get out there and get your grind on. Even with that said, they are still offering it as Free to Play, and to top it off, some time soon, all the expansions will be on GamePass! So my question is What Are You Waiting For? Lets Go Guardians!!!
