When most people play the MMO Destiny, they often forget about a game called Warframe. Warframe has basically been around since the launch of Destiny 2. It is a Free 2 Play model MMO, and its a pretty damn good one. Unfortunately, as of late I’m starting to notice that a lot of people don’t know about Warframe. Thats a shame. A real shame. Warframe plot revolves around you controlling an ancient race called Tenno. Basically they have been in a long slumber, and when they awake, they awaken to a new Earth that is ruled by different factions. The basic concept is almost similar to Destiny. Most would consider it to be a Destiny clone, but you wouldn’t understand until you start to play the game.
When you first start playing War-frame, it is mediocre, and to me just plain MEH at times. Eventually, once you get past the earlier stages, the game starts to shine. Its just a certain finesse about sliding and twirling in the air like a ninja to maneuver around the stage. As time goes on, you will have different style missions that you will have to do in order to unlock some of the better weapons and armor that you would want access to for the later game. Even though the missions can become repetitive, the overall gaming experience is still pretty good. What I do like about Warframe is the diversity in not only main story missions, but the game itself. You are able to go other planets and do other missions, but before you can accomplish that, you have to do mandatory missions on planets to unlock the junction to go to other planets. Once you have a junction unlocked, you will have a boss battle against a Warframe so that you may pass freely from that planet to the next. Another great aspect that I like about the game is the ability to forge other Warframes that you don’t have. Even though you can build other Warframes, the game kicks it up a notch and lets you build the Prime Warframes. These beauties are a little harder to obtain, but they can be made nevertheless. You just need some time and RNGesus.
The last thing that I do love about this game is the experience. I mentioned earlier that Warframe is a Free 2 Play MMO. I’m pretty sure by now, you have had at least one run in with the Free 2 Play models by now. They basically sell you the game, but to get the better aspects of the game, you have to dish out some cold hard cash. Warframe is no different, but they dont do it in a way that it is so revealing and annoying. If anything, everything that you see in Warframe you can pretty much make…..The question is, how much of your time and dedication are you willing to sacrifice to get what it is that you want? When I first started playing, I knew immediately that I wanted the Chroma Frame, but with all the different places I had to go to get the different parts, I was able to build at least another 6 Warframes before I could get to Chroma. Even when I had all the pieces to build Chroma, I still had to wait another 72 real world hours before I was able to play with it.
The main question then rises, was me being cheap, really worth the wait. If you are the type of gamer like me who enjoys working for accomplishments in games then I feel this is right up your alley. Those who dont like that feeling of working for things and like paying to unlock stuff immediately, you may very well do that as well.
Warframe is one of those games that you can freely go back and forth and play at your own leisure, but its also one of those games, that if you really like it, like I do, then you play it on different consoles. As of this typing I am managing a Volt Warframe on my Xbox and I’m managing a Chroma Warframe on my Switch. As far as which one I like better, that’s a pretty hard mix-up to decide on. I will say that I am a big electricity head in games, and it seems that Volt uses it a little bit better than Chroma…..Im just going to leave it at that.
I’ve been wanting to take time out and start Heart of Deimos, but I’ve been so busy with life and other games that I just haven’t had time. Still with that in mind, I have poured in more than enough hours to know that Warframe is a MMO that is good in its own right. If you haven’t tried this game yet, its a shame it really is. Warframe is one of those games that seem like its cheesy and boring at first, but over time will win you over. I have tried similar games in the past but none has been able to hold a candle to Destiny as well as Warframe. Warframe has the potential to to overthrow Destiny on the whole MMO shoot em up games.
