If you’ve been thinking about getting into Destiny 2, or maybe you’ve been away from the game for a while, now might actually be a pretty good time to jump back in.
Right now, Destiny 2: The Collection is on sale in the Xbox Store for $20.99, down from the regular price of $69.99. That’s a 70% discount, and the sale is currently scheduled to run through September 17.
And honestly, that’s a pretty good deal for what you’re getting.
So What Is Included?
This isn’t just the basic Destiny 2 game.
The Collection includes Destiny 2 along with a pretty massive amount of Destiny content, including:
- Forsaken Pack
- Shadowkeep
- Beyond Light
- The Witch Queen
- Lightfall
- The Final Shape
- The Edge of Fate
- Renegades
- Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack
- Dungeon Key content
- Rewards Passes
The Xbox Store currently lists all of that as part of the Collection.
That’s a LOT of Destiny for twenty bucks.
But Here Is The Funny Part…
Destiny 2 itself is already free to play.
So if you’ve never played Destiny 2 before, you can download the base game and give it a shot without spending anything.
The reason this particular sale is interesting is because you’re basically getting a huge chunk of the additional Destiny experience for $20.99.
And for somebody who already knows they like Destiny, that’s where this deal becomes much more interesting.
Should You Buy It?
That’s the question.
For me, Destiny 2 is one of those games that I can play for months and then suddenly find myself completely burned out on it.
I’ve had that happen more than once.
There are times when Destiny feels like the only game I want to play. The shooting feels great, the weapons feel great, and there is always something to chase.
Then eventually I hit that wall.
I start looking at my Guardian and thinking:
“Okay… what am I actually doing this for?”
And that’s pretty much where I’ve been lately.
I’ve been kind of bummed out on Destiny 2 and have been playing other games to fill that void. Diablo 4 and The Division 2 have been getting a lot more of my attention lately.
But seeing this sale did make me think about Destiny again.
Because $20.99 changes the conversation.
$20.99 For All Of This?
If you’re a new player, I wouldn’t tell you to blindly buy the Collection.
Play the free version first.
See if you like the gunplay. See if you like the classes. See if the whole Destiny grind is something you can get into.
But if you already know you like Destiny 2 and you’ve been waiting for a good opportunity to pick up some of the older content, $20.99 is a pretty hard price to complain about.
Especially considering the normal price is $69.99.
The Xbox Store currently has the Collection marked down by 70%, saving $49.
Is Destiny 2 Worth Coming Back To?
That’s a little harder to answer.
I think that depends on what you’re looking for.
If you’re looking for a shooter with some of the best gunplay around, Destiny 2 is still worth checking out.
If you like building characters, collecting weapons, chasing better gear and jumping into multiplayer activities with friends, there’s still plenty here.
But if you’re already burned out on the Destiny formula, a sale isn’t necessarily going to fix that.
That’s where I’m at right now.
I’m not saying I’m done with Destiny 2.
Not even close.
I know myself.
I’ll probably take a break, play something else for a while, and eventually I’ll hear that Destiny music kick in and suddenly I’ll be back in the Tower wondering what weapon I’m going to chase next.
That’s just Destiny.
My Take
If you’ve never played Destiny 2, download the free version first.
If you already know you enjoy Destiny and you’ve been waiting to pick up the larger collection, $20.99 is probably one of the better times to do it.
Just keep in mind that Destiny is Destiny.
You aren’t buying a game that you play for 20 hours and put away.
You’re buying yourself a rabbit hole.
A very expensive rabbit hole.
But at $20.99, this particular rabbit hole is looking pretty tempting.
The sale is currently scheduled to end September 17, so if you’ve been thinking about getting back into Destiny, you’ve got a little time to decide.
And who knows…
Maybe I’ll see you in the Tower.
